JOB DESCRIPTION:

A barista is a coffee-making expert who is responsible for preparing and serving coffee beverages in a café, restaurant, or coffeehouse. The following are some typical roles and responsibilities of a barista:

• Preparing coffee beverages: A barista should be able to prepare different types of coffee beverages such as espresso, latte, cappuccino, and Americano. This includes grinding coffee beans, tamping and brewing espresso shots, steaming milk, and creating latte art.
• Maintaining equipment: A barista should be knowledgeable about the coffee equipment used in the café and should be able to maintain and clean the equipment to ensure that it operates efficiently.
• Customer service: A barista should be friendly, welcoming, and able to engage customers in conversation while taking orders and preparing beverages.
• Cash handling: A barista should be able to manage cash and operate the cash register, handle payments, and give change to customers.
• Cleaning and maintaining the café: A barista should be responsible for keeping the café clean and tidy, including the equipment, counters, and tables.
• Knowledge of coffee: A barista should have a deep knowledge of different types of coffee beans, roasts, and flavors, as well as brewing methods and techniques.
• Inventory management: A barista should be responsible for keeping track of inventory levels, ordering supplies when needed, and keeping the café stocked with fresh ingredients.
• Ability to work in a team: A barista should be able to work well with other staff members, including chefs, servers, and managers, and be able to communicate effectively with them.

• Cupping and tasting skills: A barista specializing in specialty coffee should be able to accurately evaluate the quality of coffee beans through cupping and tasting and be able to communicate the flavor profile of different coffee beans to customers.
• Brew methods: A barista specializing in specialty coffee should be familiar with different brewing methods such as pour-over, Chemex, AeroPress, and immersion brewing, and be able to brew coffee using these methods to create a unique and memorable coffee experience for customers.
• Roasting knowledge: A barista specializing in specialty coffee should have some knowledge of coffee roasting, including roast profiles and the effects of different roasts on the flavor of the coffee.
